*Golden enhydro double terminated quartz also known as petroleum quartz or enpetro quartz is one of the most unusual, rare and strongest forms of quartz crystals. Enhydro is a Greek word meaning “water within.” Golden enhydros get their name when quartz crystals form around liquid yellow petroleum oil deposits and encase them inside forever. This process unfolds over millions of years and golden enhydros are found in only 3 locations, the Himalayas, Afghanistan and Pakistan. When exposed to UV/black lights, the petroleum inclusions fluoresce a vibrant green/blue allowing these one-of-a-kind gems to “glow from within.”

Golden enhydro double terminated quartz come directly out of the ground in the shape you see, they are not faceted by gem cutters. These gems are often called Herkimer diamonds, however only those crystals mined in Herkimer, NY can be authentically labeled Herkimer diamonds.
